Providing shelter, material and spiritual resources for female survivors of domestic violence, based on Christ's ministry to women.

Our Mission

Using the Bible as the foundation for trauma care and a survivor-centered approach, we bring healing and purpose to female survivors of domestic violence so they can live fulfilled lives. Our services include vocational and craft training, psycho-social support, Word-based group therapy sessions, and mentoring.

Why We Exist

Our Purpose

Grace's Place Shelter exists to interrupt the cycle of domestic violence in the lives of Nigerian women and their children — replacing fear with safety, silence with support, and survival with a future. We open our doors, and our hearts, so that every woman who walks through them leaves not just sheltered, but restored: equipped in skill, sound in mind, and secure in her God-given worth.

Grace's Place is named in honour of our founder's mother, and has grown from a single act of faith into a live-in facility supporting an average of 20 women a year with housing, food, counselling, legal aid referrals and medical attention. Despite limited resources, the Shelter's day-to-day operations are consistently maintained through strong internal discipline and accountability in managing donor and community funds.

Grace's Place operates under Dayspring Discipleship and Helps Ministry, a registered trustee under the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC/IT/NO 31805, registered 23 March 2009). Learn more at dayspringhelps.org.

Mrs Amu was a devoted believer in this vision from its earliest days — one of Grace's Place Shelter's most steadfast supporters, who championed the cause of every woman who found refuge here. The entire Grace's Place Shelter project, and this website, are dedicated to her memory.

Our Story

How Grace's Place began

In Nigeria, gender-based violence cuts across religion, social class and ethnicity. National surveys show that roughly one in three Nigerian women has experienced physical or sexual violence — we believe the Church has a responsibility to stand on the front line of that fight.

A Biblical Conviction

Domestic violence is a form of oppression the Bible speaks firmly against, and Jesus Christ came to set the oppressed free. Hebrews 13:3 calls believers to remember those who are mistreated — and it was this conviction that led to the founding of Grace's Place as a refuge for female survivors of domestic violence.

2015 · Grace's Place is Founded

The Shelter was founded in 2015 and registered with the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) and the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. We chose our level of intervention carefully, deciding to provide shelter, Christian counselling, group therapy, trauma care and mediation — trained to understand the fallout and complexity of domestic violence and to apply a Biblical framework to our response.

A Home Away From Home

We shelter women escaping an abusive environment for an average stay of one night to six months. During their time with us, survivors have access to a clinical psychologist, Christian counselling, group therapy and creative therapy, while continuing routine domestic chores. Ours is an open shelter — women are encouraged to continue their regular work, education or business if it's safe to do so, and we partner with other NGOs for empowerment opportunities.

2015 · Named for a Mother's Legacy

Grace's Place Shelter takes its name in honour of the founder's mother — a name that has since come to represent refuge for more than 100 women.

2025 · Governor's Commendation

Grace's Place Shelter was named Most Responsive NGO for Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, a commendation from the Lagos State Governor honouring our commitment to survivors.

Today

Since 2015, Grace's Place has housed over 100 women, and more than 50 beneficiaries now live independently or have reunited with family on God's terms. We continue to walk with every woman who comes through our doors — from her first night of safety to the day she steps confidently into a fulfilled, independent life.

  • We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, vicarious death, bodily resurrection, ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His return in glory.
  • We believe in the ministry of the Holy Spirit, His gifts, and the spiritual union of all believers in our Lord.
